FAQ

In our experience, it takes about 3 months to get confident in a language and achieve a new level. That’s why we structure our courses within a 3-months’ time span: from zero to A1, from A1 to A2, from A2 to B1, from B1 to B1+, from B1+ to B2, from B2 to C1.

In a language learning community, we use skill levels defined in the CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) system to measure learners’ ability in a language. This is a six-point scale: from A1 to C2. The scale helps teachers, learners, educational institutions, and employers see the level of qualifications in a language. Let’s have a look at the CEFR (Dutch -ERK) scale:

A1

This is a level for beginners. At this level you learn to use and understand basic expressions, introduce yourself, and ask for and give personal details. You can understand others as soon as they speak slowly and clearly.

A2

At the elementary level you can understand and produce sentences and expressions related to your everyday life: basic personal information, family, shopping, weather, hobby’s, local geography, restaurants, and cafés.

B1

This is the intermediate level. At this level you can understand and produce the main points on familiar matters referred to work, school, leisure, travelling, etc. You can also describe experiences, events, plans, dreams, ambitions and give brief explanations for your arguments and ideas.

B2

At the upper-intermediate level you can deal with complex text on concrete and abstract topics, including the field of your specialization. Level B2 allows you to produce clear detailed text on different subjects and explain the point of view giving advantages and disadvantages. You can also spontaneously interact without too much strain for yourself or a native speaker.

C1

At the advanced level you can understand a wide range of longer and more complex texts or conversations; effectively use the language for social, academic, or professional situations; create well-structured and detailed texts on complex topics.

C2

This is the proficient level. At C2 you can understand almost everything read or heard with ease; express yourself using precise meaning in complex scenarios.

During our lessons we use our own developed workbooks in combination with learning books: Nederlands in gang, Nederlands in actie, Nederlands op niveau and Nederlands naar perfectie. Note that you don’t have to purchase the workbook to participate in our courses.

In our lessons we focus on all the aspects of a language: speaking, writing, listening, reading. With the help of our workbook, we learn and practice writing with a profound explanation of grammar rules and additional vocabulary lists, while the learning book helps master listening, reading, and speaking skills.
